FAQ

  • Who can set up a DONKEYmotion system?

Basic applications such as mobile assembly platforms or radio-controlled transport systems can be put into operation by any electrical specialist using our modular system. For complex automated guided vehicles, we can provide you with the necessary expertise.
  • Do I need an extra control unit for external components?

Our control and amplifier units have powerful inputs and outputs that can be used to control other superstructures. In particular, 4 electric cylinders can be controlled directly. Almost any extensions are possible via the CAN bus.
  • How to place the Mecanum drives?

The opposing drives must be arranged with their axes parallel. They are usually arranged in a rectangle. However, any other arrangement is possible, as long as the axes are parallel.
  • How uneven can the ground be that is being driven on?

Standard industrial floors, tolerated according to DIN 18202, pose no problems. In the main direction of travel of the Mecanum wheel, edges up to 5% of the wheel diameter can be driven over without any problems; when travelling sideways, edges limited for our M system to max. 3 mm high.
  • Is the system safe?

The components enable safe operation according to the Machinery Directive and CE. The remote control is designed to be safe. The control of the drives contains safe emergency stop circuits, .... however, the entire system should always be subjected to a risk assessment, which can usually be completed in a few hours with our support.
  • Why do the MecanumDriveS drives have a diameter of 190 mm?

According to the specific standards for automated guided vehicles (AGVs), people lying in the travel path must be safely detected. Safety laser scanners are usually used for this purpose. These must detect a standard body of 200 mm diameter. The wheel diameter of 190 mm enables compact systems in which the scanners can look over the wheels and thus detect the standard body.
  • Is the operation complicated?

No. The 3-axis joystick of the radio remote control is arranged according to the movement of the vehicle. So you can steer intuitively. The axes of the joystick are high-resolution. You can therefore control the speed and position very precisely.
